Need some fresh fun for your youth group? The best youth group ideas seamlessly blend active connection with deeper truth. 9 Square in the Air has you covered with a full night of activities for keeping everyone engaged and connecting!
A glow-in-the-dark worship night combines elements of game time, worship and teaching to create a memorable event. Here are five ideas to get you started:
Set the Scene:
First, lights out. You’ll want to set up some black lights and neon decorations Neon duct tape or gaffer’s tape works great for a low-cost way to introduce some neon elements into your event. Your local dollar store will have glow sticks and other glow items. Consider creating a glow-tunnel with plenty of tape, glow items and white crepe paper hanging down to welcome your youth group to the event.
9 Square in the Air:
You may not realize that 9 Square in the Air not only makes its original Deluxe Game in blue, but there’s also a NEON Deluxe game edition. It’s perfect for a glow-in-the-dark event. And it’s not the perfect game for your event just because it glows. There are a lot of great reasons to have this game as part of your fun:
- It’s completely portable, it sets up in minutes and it stores easily for next week’s youth group.
- It was invented for the sole purpose of helping youth kids connect—you’ll be surprised at how quickly and effectively it works.
- It can be played for as long or as short a time as you want. Use it before, after and during your event!
Encourage Glow Wear:
Tell your youth to arrive in white or neon shirts with neon face paint and white and neon accessories. If kids are really into it, consider awarding a glow trophy to the best-dressed participant.
Teach About Light:
There are plenty of directions you can go with this, but one idea is to use Matthew 5:14-16. It’s a good lesson for both newcomers and those who have studied scripture a lot. Consider having students break into smaller groups and discuss a few topics:
- What are some of the qualities of light? How about darkness?
- Were you afraid of the dark when you were young? Anyone willing to admit to still being a little uneasy in the dark? Why do you suppose this speaks so clearly to us about who we are in Jesus?
- Have you ever known someone who served as a light in your life, pointing you to holiness or walking with Jesus?
Worship and Prayer:
Your glow decorations create a great atmosphere for allowing your youth to spend some time in prayer, either individually or in groups. Encourage them to pray about the ways in which God is asking them to be a light for others. Finish with some worship songs (there are plenty out there about light!) and invite kids to hang out and talk.
Your glow-in-the-dark worship night is likely to become a quarterly or monthly event. You’ll be ready for this special night to become a cornerstone of your youth group, but first you need to contact us at 9 Square in the Air to get your NEON Deluxe set ordered! We look forward to talking with you.
