Even Brides play 9 Square in the Air

Your youth group knows how to have fun. There’s nothing too silly, too crazy, too off-the-wall. But there are times when you want to have fun that’s more than just entertainment. You’re scheduling a mission’s event for your youth, and (surprise!) it’s going to be crazy fun because it’s all centered around 9 Square in the Air.

Here are two great ideas for a 9 Square in the Air missions’ event:

Theme Nights: Is your church partnered with a sister church across the world or committed to supporting a missionary in a different culture? A 9 Square in the Air night that is tailored to a ministry focus is a great way to form a meaningful connection among kids with missions. Try these tips:

Ask your connection, whether it’s a missionary or pastor, in the far-off location to create a video talking about what they are working on and how your youth can pray for them. Follow the video with a time for small groups of youth to gather up and pray for the mission.

Prepare some authentic cuisine! Your youth will enjoy trying new tastes, and it’s another way to help them solidify what they are hearing about related to the mission.

Pair it with a project, finding some way to benefit the mission that has partnered with your church. Whether it’s a fundraiser or some kind of craft, find a way to put what your youth have learned into practice.

Finish with a few rounds of 9 Square in the Air. Your youth may be excited about missions, but there will likely be a few that feel a bit emotional or overwhelmed when hearing about needs. A physical game like 9 Square in the Air can help them end the evening connecting with the group!

Tournament Fundraiser: Gather up your youth for a 9 Square in the Air tournament to benefit a partner mission of your church. Charge a fee for entry, either by participant or by team, and have teams compete to win either half the money or another smaller prize. Donate the proceeds to the mission.

You can incorporate some of the same ideas from above or find creative ways to highlight the ministry or mission you’re supporting:

Have stations for those teams that aren’t actively in the game, such as spots for viewing snapshots of the mission or a station where they can write a postcard to the missionary or group.

Set up a video station where youth can record a short greeting to their friends across the globe.

Have a song contest, inviting teams to make up a short theme song for their team. Extra points for dance moves!
